The various Advent laptops on sale...

Here's a list of the various laptops on sale, their hardware, and some configuration tips will also turn up here eventually - on laptops that already have a separate FAQ page I have included the URL of that page. This page doesn't exist to steal other peoples' hard work, it's there to help those people with different models of Advent to resolve their problems (and of course for myself- since I get a lot of mail from Advent users wanting to work on Linux, who often have different models with different hardware, I needed to centralise the information in order to make it easier for me to point to the right site, or when there is no site, for me to resolve their problems as easily as possible... )

I might just note at this point: anybody with an Advent not on this list/ on this list with incomplete information, please guys send me as much information as you can on your laptop, what works under Linux, what the hardware is, and so on, so I can add to the list and keep it as complete a resource as possible. Thanks ;-)

NB. As far as I know, all Advent laptops come with internal floppy disk drives. All, afaik, come with touchpads rather than mouse type pointers.

Come on people, help me fill in the blanks ;-)

SIS specific information can be got at the company's site. BTW, few internal modems ever work under Linux. Expect to factor in the cost of a PCMCIA modem if this matters to you (Psion gold cards or 3com PCMCIA modems apparently work, for example).

APM issues, X windows suffers from known bug on logout/change to console
Start off by NOT using apm. Introduce with care. Other than that, should be possible to persuade it to run well with new kernel/X Windows. See details.

Probably requires framebuffer to be used for X windows as error reported previously. Relatively old (May 2000) Other possible solution to this error is suggested to be the use of svga xserver

Not sure if this is a laptop or just a power supply code.... (there's definitely a 7250 power supply!)
